Welcome to the Year 9 Options Page
Pupils pick their GCSE option subjects in February of Year 9.
For the current Year 9 students the process will begin on 1st February 2024.
We would like to invite parents and pupils to an options/parents evening on Thursday 1st February, from 4pm - 7pm. This event will take place in school.
If you are unable to attend please see the video below for an introduction to the process.
This event is a little different to a normal parents' evening. Over the evening pupils/parents need to do the following things:
- Have a 5 minute appointment with the pupils' English, maths and science teacher.
- Attend a 30 minute options presentation in the school hall.
- Visit the option subject stands in the gym and sixth form common room to discuss taking these subjects for GCSE.
Pupils will be issued a form prior to the evening to book their appointments with their English, maths and science teachers.
The 30 minute options presentation for Foley and Graveney pupils and parents will take place from 5pm - 5.30pm and pupils in these houses will not be able to book appointments with their teachers during this period of time.
The 30 minute options presentation for Ottewell and Selvey pupils and parents will take place from 6pm - 6.30pm and pupils in these houses will not be able to book appointments with their teachers during this period of time.
There will be displays and representatives from each option subject in the school gym and sixth form common room. Parents and pupils can visit these at any time during the evening from 4pm-7pm. A number of these subjects pupils will not have encountered at Key Stage 3.
Where possible we would ask pupils are accompanied by only one parent or guardian as the evening tends to be a busy one.
After the evening your child will be sent a link to an online form via which to submit their options. They will be asked to check with you that you are happy with their choices before they submit this form.
The deadline for the online submission of Option Forms is Tuesday 27th February 2024.
Some A-level subjects have a minimum grade requirement from GCSE while some subjects do not have to have been studied at GCSE (such as Psychology). See our sixth form pages for more information on this, or talk to subject teachers.
