British Values at Balcarras
The Government emphasises that schools are required to ensure that key ‘British Values’ are taught in all UK schools.
The Government set out its definition of British values in the 2011 Prevent Strategy and provided further advice to schools in the DfE document ‘Promoting fundamental British values as part of SMSC in schools’ November 2014.
The five British Values are:
Democracy
The rule of law
Individual liberty
Mutual respect
Tolerance of those of different faiths and beliefs
We aim to model these values as part of our everyday work.
The values are explicitly taught during our personal development sessions: click here for more information.
In addition, our curriculum is full of opportunities to explore British values with our pupils. Below is a snapshot showing some of the areas that will be looked at each year.
