Balcarras opened its doors to a careers fair for years 7 to 13
The 2017 Careers fair was the best ever! Again. Unbelievably it was better than last year. There were more companies represented and an even wider variety of types from Hair and beauty to Dyson Engineering. The Hall and the Gym were both needed this year. The latter was needed to increase the capacity of the event, were packed with students and parents from Year 9-13. The older students went to a range of talks on higher education, given by some of the universities and UCAS.
These were on topics such as how to choose a post 18 course and how to write a personal statement. Liz Hazledene , the CEO of Kohler Mira gave an inspiring speech to a group of about 45 female students and parents on how to succeed as a woman in the engineering world. The talk really made the girls feel empowered and we will definitely be asking Liz back again to help with things like the girls effort challenge in year 11.
