Philosophy fortnight

Pupils run Philosophy fortnight

Friday marked the end of the annual Philosophy Fortnight and the 10th year that we have been running it. The whole fortnight has been filled with philosophy and ethics lessons within the RE department as well as tutor time activities and the highlight of the week, the year 11 debate. There was standing room only with students from all over the school crowding Mrs Grogan's classroom to watch. The motion 'This house believes that religion should play no part in modern ethical issues' was a challenging one but the students involved well and truly rose to the occasion. I was extremely impressed with the quality of debating skill demonstrated as well as the depth and breadth of knowledge and understanding the speakers demonstrated. Well done to the speakers and those involved in the preparation, you should feel very proud.

Thank you to everyone involved this year, hearing the thoughtful, passionate, intelligent and confident ideas from young people on complex philosophical an ethical issues always makes this fortnight enjoyable, and this year it was one of the best.
