District Athletics success

Pupils from Balcarras hit success at District Athletic events over the last few weeks
Year 9 Athletics
On 4th June Balcarras took over 30 students to the Prince of Wales for the year 9 Cheltenham and District athletics competition. It was a cold and windy day but that did not dampen the students’ spirits. The atmosphere was incredible with lots of parents and family members watching. Balcarras had some outstanding performances, with Lucy Wilson getting two PBs in the long jump and 100m, Josh Jones winning he hurdles and Reuben Wiltshire winning the high jump! On top of this Rosie Atkins beat the stadium record for the 800m and ran a fantastic 2 minutes 21.3 seconds! We dominated the track and saw a lot of red athletics vests crossing the finish line 1st, 2nd and 3rd throughout a lot of events. The girls smashed the relay coming first comfortably which was a lovely way to end an incredible day. It was a tense wait whilst the results were being added up! Balcarras girls came 1st with 73 points in 2nd was Cotswold with 38.5 points! Balcarras boys came 1st with 73 points and in 2nd was Leckhampton High and Pates with 60 points. Which means Balcarras are the overall the year 9 Cheltenham and District athletics champions!!! Massive congratulations to everyone involved!
Year 7 & 8 Girls Athletics
The following week we took the year 7 & 8 girls for their Cheltenham and District athletics competition. It was an exciting and action-packed afternoon filled with energy, determination and outstanding performances across both year groups. The enthusiasm and team spirt displayed by the girls were truly inspiring. A special congratulations goes to our year 8 team who delivered a phenomenal performance and came 1st ! From sprint finishes to impressive throws, year 8s set the bar high. There were some great performances from Isla Mc Ritchie who came 1st in hurdles and a close 2nd high jump and Ella Mason who won the discus. The year 7s also deserve high praise for finishing 2nd just behind Pates by one point! There were some incredible performances throughout especially from Ava Bailey who won the hurdles and Lola Newport Black and Lucy Vaughn who came 2nd and 3rd respectively in the long jump. Overall Balcarras came 1st and brought home the trophies once again! Congratulations to everyone who represented the school and thank you to all the supporters which came to watch. We are looking forward to next year!
