DofE Bronze record numbers
Year 10 pupils brave the rain on their DofE Expedition
This weekend saw record numbers of Year 10's take part in their Duke of Edinburgh Bronze expedition. There were 104 pupils who met up at Hayles Fruit farm for this part of their award. The route had been amended to miss the thunder that was predicted. However it didn't stop the pupils getting drenched in a heavy downpour as they were cooking their tea. They remained in good spirits despite this, thanks to the spectacular views.
On the Saturday they completed a walk around 5 miles, navigating and practising teamwork. Before having hot chocolate, marshmallows before heading to sleep in their tents. On the Sunday the weight of their full rucksacks slowed the groups down, as they made there way up towards Cleeve common. Despite the odd group getting lost they all made their way to the finish point, in time for sunshine and a well earned sit down.
To achieve the Duke of Edinburghs award the pupils have to complete 4 sections; learn a new skill, a physical activity, volunteer and complete the expedition. If you are interested in learning more about this either talk to Mr Butler, Mr Pearce or look at the DofE website click here.
Special thanks go to the PTFA for their support of DofE buying some new tents.
