Sustainable textiles

Pupils have been working to make textiles at Balcarras a little more sustainable

The two bags have been made by Year 9 students. They have been trying to be more eco conscious by using plants, vegetables and rusty objects to colour their bags instead of using chemical dyes that pollute our water systems.

The dress has been made from scratch by a year 10 student and was dyed in the same way as the bags.

The t shirt has been made from scratch by a year 9 boy and was dyed in the same way as the bags and dress he also painted his own union jack flag which was then also printed onto his top.

The two laptop bags were made by year 8 students also trying to be a little more sustainable and they have done this by recycling plastic carrier bags, laminating elements of these onto their fabric as decoration amongst other techniques.
