Pond Conservation

Pupils from the Eco Club have been working on a pond on the school site

Year 7 and 8 pupils from the Schools Eco club have been looking after the school site. On Wednesday they carried out some conservation work, and cleared vegetation from the pond by Science. Over time ponds fill up with vegetation, and this one was well overdue some work. Not many pupils are even aware that there was a pond at the back of science.

The group took spades, wellies and gloves and cleared old rushes, sedges, soil and branches from the pond. It turns out the old pond was around 6 foot deep in the middle. Having removed the soil and plants we will then clear awy the old ripped liner and replace it with a new liner. The aim of this pond is to create a conservation area, with habitats for frogs, newts and freshwater invertebrates.
