Author visit for Year 9

On Friday 27th, the library hosted Anna February, author of The Hive, for a workshop for select Year 9s and Year 10s. It is always a joy to host an author workshop for Year 9 and Year 10. Ms February lead the students in an escape room type workshop inspired by the novel – we went old school with paper and pen, dictionaries and team work to solve the mystery!
‘The Hive’ is a dystopian murder mystery with elements of climate change and a central theme of finding the courage to find oneself in a world that demands staying in line. ‘The Hive’ fits perfectly with the Year 9s finishing their dystopian unit of work and reminded the Year 10 students that reading can be purely just for fun!

With the pressure of GCSE and mock exams, Spring is a perfect time to remind students of the joy in reading for pleasure. ‘The Hive’ is available to borrow from the school and public library as well as purchase from local booksellers. We are excited for the release of the sequel, ‘The Swarm’ which will be available in early April.
