Textiles Trip to Kensington Palace & V&A Museum – Friday 26th September

On Friday, our GCSE and A-Level Textiles students took part in a fascinating and enriching visit to Kensington Palace and the Victoria and Albert Museum.

The day began with The Dress Code exhibition at Kensington Palace, offering a unique insight into the history of royal fashion. Students explored how clothing has been used by members of the royal family to express identity, status, and tradition. The exhibition provided a valuable perspective on the symbolism and craftsmanship behind garments worn across generations of monarchy.

We then headed to the Victoria and Albert Museum, where students explored a wide-ranging collection of historical artefacts, decorative arts, and design from across the globe. While not solely focused on fashion, the museum offered valuable context on how textiles and craftsmanship have evolved within different cultures and time periods. From intricate embroidery to ceremonial garments, students gained a deeper appreciation for the cultural significance and artistry behind textile traditions worldwide.

The trip was a fantastic opportunity for students to connect their classroom learning to real-world examples, sparking thoughtful discussions and creative inspiration for their own textile work.
