Geography Fieldwork Year 10

Year 10's have two days out on fieldwork as part of their GCSE

As part of their GCSE geography course the Year 10 students have had to undertake two 'field days' - these days are intended to expose GCSE geographers to a range of data collection methods and to prepare them for their final exams.

The first of these days was to the Forest of Dean in March to study the river at Wenchford. The day got off to a sticky start when the coaches didn't arrive, but some quick thinking thanks to Mrs Massey saw two coaches turn up mid-morning and we managed to get all 110 students to the river and back in good time. The students collected data on the characteristics of the river and tested the theory of the Bradshaw model.

In May we then embarked on a second day to Bristol, for the human element of the course. We enjoyed a boat trip around the docks with the Bristol Packet where we were treated to an expert analysis of the evolution of the docks over the years. The boats then dropped us at Temple Quay where we undertook a study to assess the impact that the recent regeneration of Temple Quarter has had on the environment and the economy. Finally, we managed to sneak in 45 minutes at Cabot Circus where Wingstop was the food outlet of choice for a late lunch!

Both days were a great success. Thanks to all involved.
