Results at Balcarras in 2009 were once again very good. The hard work of our pupils, teachers and parents has been rewarded with many excellent achievements for students of all abilities.
Our A level results were outstanding this year. Our average UCAS points score per pupil was 388, which roughly equates to BBB in 3 A levels plus 2 B grades at AS level. This was our best year ever, and gave the majority of our students the opportunity to progress to the university of their choice. Our average points per entry was 97.5, our highest ever, and there were some outstanding individual results, including over 100 students accumulating at least 300 points.

The results achieved by our y12 students were our second best ever. The average UCAS points score per student was 194 – equivalent to BBBB in 4 AS levels. There were a number of notable achievements, with 43 students gaining at least 240 points, equivalent to BBBBC in five AS subjects. This bodes well for what will be a highly competitive round of university entrance next year.
Our GCSE results have remained consistently high, reflecting our passion for constant improvement and a refusal to rest on our laurels. Students have benefited from very strong teaching and we are pleased with the headline figure of 84% obtaining five or more A*-C grades. With English and Maths included, the level is a thoroughly pleasing 73%. 30% of the grades were A or higher, and there were 60 students who achieved at least 5 A or A*grades.
