Diplomatic visit

Politics students go to a question and answer session with the German ambassador and the Justice Secretary.

On Friday 9th June, eight Year 12 students were invited to Cheltenham College to attend an event hosted by Alex Chalk, the recently appointed Justice Secretary, and Miguel Berger, the German Ambassador to the UK. The event involved a talk from both politicians, followed by a lengthy Question and Answer session, where we were given the chance to ask whatever questions came to mind, on topics such as international relations, culture, history, immigration and (of course) Brexit! The experience was absolutely fascinating, and it provided invaluable insights into politics and diplomacy, as well as brilliant personal stories from the German Ambassador from his service around the world, such as his posting to Romania one year after the Romanian Revolution of 1989. Also, this event provided a chance for us to consider a career in the diplomatic service, a subject which is not covered by the usual curriculum. We would all like to thank Mr Harding, Mr Stoker and all of those who helped to organise such a phenomenal opportunity.
