British Citizenship Ceremony

Balcarras pupils perform at ceremony to welcome new citizens

British Citizenship Ceremony
On 20th June students from Balcarras School were asked to sing to help celebrate civil society in our country. On behalf of Her Majesty the Queen, the Lord-Lieutenant of Gloucestershire is responsible for the citizenship ceremonies in which new citizens of the United Kingdom are confirmed and welcomed into our midst after a lengthy but due process. These ceremonies are important occasions, both for the participants but also for our society.
To help enhance the importance of the event a small choir of twelve students sang a variety of songs with British flavour before and at the conclusion of the ceremony. We received excellent feedback from the Deputy Lieutenant of Gloucestershire, who wrote: “They were a great credit to themselves and their school.” It was a moving occasion as the new citizens swore their oaths and allegiance to the Queen, and pledged their loyalty to the United Kingdom.
We hope we will be able to contribute to these occasions again, not only to be able to sing at such a prestigious event, but also to see first-hand an important aspect of our nation’s life.
